Rape - Two Reflections

In November the world was horrified to learn (YouTube) that a Saudi Arabian woman had been sentenced to 200 lashes as punishment after being gang raped. What a barbaric country we all said. What kind of society could treat women in such a outrageous way.
This month the media has reported (YouTube) on the gang rape of a 20 year old woman by her Halliburton coworkers in Iraq. She was drugged, raped and when she woke up and realized she had been raped she was locked in a shipping container by the company for 24 hours and told she would lose her job if she sought medical help. She was only rescued when a guard had pity and lent her his cell phone so she could call her father, who then contacted his congressman. No one has been charged and no investigation undertaken.

I guess the mercenaries at Halliburton are taking the middle-eastern mentality to heart as they move their headquarters from Houston to Dubai. When I was in Houston last year Halliburton was hemorrhaging workers to Jacobs Engineering. No wonder. I wouldn't want to be associated with such a company either.
